Prerequisite:
Objectives:
You will be introduced to “Steel Challenge,” “USPSA,” and “IDPA” including rules, techniques, shooting drills, and shooting stages. FUN
What to Expect:
This course will be taught in two days at the range. Each day will be about 9 hours with a 30 minute break for lunch. The round count will be a minimum of 600 rounds.
Location and Cost:
Range time will be at Chaffee County Range. The course fee is $440 per student.
What to Bring:
Firearm:
Bring a heavy-duty semi-automatic handgun (no revolvers). The weapon must be fully functional, have all factory installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications such as a “hair” trigger less than 4 pounds, removed trigger guard, pinned grip safety, etc. Pocket pistols are not allowed. A suitable backup weapon is strongly recommended, as many weapons fail at some point during the training.
Holster:
Outside the waistband (OWB) worn on the firing (strong) side of the body at the point of the hip. The holster must cover the trigger guard and secure the weapon while moving. Your holster should not collapse when the weapon is removed and should secure the weapon while moving. For IDPA (on the 2nd day) you will need concealment that completely covers your firearm and magazines. You may use your every day carry holster.
Support Equipment:
A minimum of 3 magazines (more is better especially if your magazines are single stack) and 1 double or 2 single magazine pouches are recommended. Magazines should be worn on the belt on the support side of the body.
Electronic hearing protection is mandatory.
Wrap around impact-resistant eye protection is mandatory.
Loose pants with a sturdy belt, a hat with a brim, comfortable closed-toe shoes or boots, and weather appropriate clothing is required. Open necked shirts or sleeve-less shirts are NOT recommended.
Ammunition:
600-650 rounds of factory new ammunition. Reloaded or remanufactured ammunition is NOT allowed.
Jacketed bullets are required. The bullet design may be full metal jacket (FMJ), total metal jacket (TMJ), jacketed soft point (JSP), or jacketed hollow point (JHP).

Portable chair for use during lectures (we will have them but if you have a favorite)
Water bottle (we supply refills)
Lunch and snacks (you will not have time to leave the range for lunch)
